Gun Vault Safe model # GV2000C - DLX (Review)

Well as promised I will give a review of the Gun Vault Safe model # GV2000C - DLX. This is a must have if you have children in the home and need to have a safe place to store loaded handguns with easy access. The safe is well constructed of 16 gauge steel with a pry resistant door. Keyword folks, pry resistant, not impenetrable! The safe comes with two (2) pass keys in case you forget your code. These look very similar to drink machine keys I use to use in the 80's as a bagger at a grocery store to open drink machines. This particular model has the optional AC adpater as well as the battery compartment which utilizes eight (8) AA batteries.

The features of this unit are as follows:

Spring loaded door; corrosion resistant powder coated texture finish; no-eyes keypad; two pass keys; security sleep mode in case of unauthorized entry attempts; low battery warning; and knock outs for optional security cable to anchor safe.

This DLX model here also has:

Interior courtesy light; motion detection & audible alarm.

Let's start out with the installation of batteries. This is easy and the tray uses two plastic thumbnuts to release the tray from under the foam interior of the ceiling. Once loaded and re-installed you are ready to set your own personal code from one to a maximum of six entries. Not three to six different individual codes but actual button key presses. Obviously, the more (up to 6 entries) the more secure your safe will be. I use five entries myself.

The manual guides you through this process and I will not go into detail other than to tell you that after getting the DLX (deluxe) model I really never use the optional AC adpater. The batteries work fine and just like a smoke detector will warn you when they are low for replacement. Plus, if they do die before replacement, the pass key will get you into the safe quickly too. However, never leave your pass keys lying around for children or intruders..........keep in a secure location!

I tested this safe in the dark after I programmed my code. I can do it effortlessy due to the recessed finger grooves you see from the actual picture. This makes it easy if awaken at night and your still a little groggy or wide awake but wish not to turn on a light. It has audible button press indicator so you know your making valid button presses for opening your safe. A great feature I think. You can set the unit to cancel out the audible if you wish.

You can even see if anyone attempted unauthorized entry as outlined in the manual. This is great if you have kid's and need to interrogate them if you suspect they attempted to get in the safe! I love this feature.

It also has a 24 entry feature that if after 24 incorrect attempts the safe will go into audible alarm and unless a valid code entered will sound off to let one know unauthorized entry was attempted. There are other features to this as well that the manaul states I will not go into detail about here.

Just know this safe has motion sensor; and vibration sensors if you set it to use these. I keep mine in simple mode of just securing weapons from basic attempts to gain entry. Like anything, this unit can be carried off by someone and broken into. It just keeps honest people honest and kid's hopefully out.

I will tell you this...........if you get the DLX (deluxe) model don't use batteries with AC adpater. I tried this but my code kept erasing after a while so I chose to use battery only option. Use either or. However, if you have a power outage then the unit resets to the factory code setting to gain entry or you have to use your pass key.

All in all, worth the $125 I paid! I looked online to find the best deal on this safe and ended up buying from a online dealer called Sportco out of Fife, Washington.

They had the best deal hands down. I highly recommend this safe for easy access and child proof from unauthorized entry. It allows quick and easy access in emergency situations and houses two guns easily since this unit has a shelf in it for your guns. I place one on the shelf and the other gun on the floor bottom. Don't worry, this safe is totally lined with thick foam so those expensive guns with finishes are fully protected.

From my picture you see just how this unit looks both outside and in.

I give it 5 stars out of 5 if your looking for something small; quickly accessable; and works as advertised. Now there is a biometric version by GunVault, Inc. but too many reviews hinted to kinks still needing to be worked out on those models for me to invest in. They run around $300 for the biometric of similar size.

Just so you know before I end this review............the interior light is not the best but does shine on the top shelf fairly well. Really you should feel your way on your gun and know your weapons position in the safe.
